With everyone stuck at home much more during lockdown, many of us are keeping entertained by watching anything and everything on Netflix.
But picking something to watch that both you and your significant other agree on can be tricky – as new research has shown.
A recent YouGov survey of 2,000 consumers for creative agency Ralph revealed that over the course of the lockdown, one in three British couples have been watching more movies together than before.
And, with one in 10 couples spending more than 15 minutes endlessly scrolling through movie options before settling on something, it’s not surprising that 30% have had arguments about finding a movie to watch.
You could come up with an arrangement where you alternate movie nights, where one person chooses a film, then the other chooses the next day.
Or you could try something new.
A brand new website, called Movie Matcher, has just launched which uses a clever algorithm to suggest a movie you’ll both enjoy – and it couldn’t be easier to use.
So how does it work?
You can play with your partner/friend or with a famous movie character.
Simply answer a few questions about your likes and dislikes and your requirements will be matched with those of your pal, giving you a few spot-on movie recommendations.
The algorithm, created by Ralph, uses IMDB data to surface more obscure films that perhaps you haven’t seen.
It prioritises subgenres and keywords over genres to make sure that the final results have a high rating – so you know it won’t throw up any duds.
